SIMULTANEOUS MEASUREMENT OF TRITIUM AND $sup 14$C IN BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL WITH A LIQUID SCINTILLATION COUNTER (in German)
Work on simultaneous determination of /sup 3/H and /sup 14/C in dry tissue specimens, using a liquid scintillation counter is reported. Carbon-14 was measured in the form of /sup 14/CO/sub 2/, and tritium as TOH. These inorganic compounds can best by obtained from dry organs by combustion in an oxygen atmosphere, using Schoninger's method. A mixture of toluene, ethanol, colamine, PPO, and POPOP was used as a scintillator. The two counting channels of the scintillation counter (TriCarb) were adjusted so that tritium was measured only in one channel, while the counting rate for /sup 14/C was the same in both channels. With this set-up, the actual amount of tritium and /sup 14/C in the specimen can be determined with a minimum of calculation. Certain possibilities of error in simultaneous measurement of /sup 3/H and /sup 14/C are discussed. (auth)
