RADIOMETRIC TRACE ANALYSIS OF LEAD (thesis)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4034347
Techniques in trace analysis, particularly in the determination of traces of Pb, were investigated. Analysis with radioactive reagents and radio- exchange analysis were found to be the best methods. The reagents best suited for the work were S/sup 35/ and P/sup 32/. The methods investigated for the determination of Pb were: quantitative paper chromatography with P/sup 32/, which made the determination less sensitive to interferences; determination with P/sup 32/ without preceding separations which, with certain restrictions, proved to be successful for the analysis of 0.01 mu equivalent of Pb; determination with diethyldithiocarbamate and Tl/sup 204/ ions, which proved to be complicated owing to the coextraction of diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC); and determination with T1/ sup 204/ (DDC), which proved to be suitable for the analysis of 0.05 mu g of Pb in addition to being simple and inexpensive.
