RADIOMETRIC TRACE ANALYSIS OF COBALT WITH DIETHYLDITHIOCARBAMATE-$sup 35$S, OR $sup 203$Hg

Journal Article · · Analytica Chimica Acta (Netherlands)
Two radiometric methods for the determination of submicrogram amounts of cobalt are described. Cobalt ls extracted from an ammoniacal solution with a zincdiethyldithlocarbamate- S/sup 35/ solution ln chloroform. Excess reagent and lnterferlng metals are removed with mercury(II) and cyanide. The S/sup 35/ in the final organic layer is a measure of the cobalt ln thls layer. In the secon method cobalt is extracted from an ammoniacal solution with a fixed amount of zinc-DDC ln chloroform. Excess reagent and compIexes of forelgn metals are removed by exchange wlth Hg//sup 203 2+/ and the Hg/sup 203/ ln the chloroform (compared wlth a blank) acts as a measure of the cobalt. The flrst method ls applicable to 0.1 mu g of cobalt and the second to 0.8 mu g. As the efficiency of both processes is varlable, lsotope dlIutlon with Co/sup 60/ is carried out. A 10-fold and 4-fold excess of forelgn rnetals ls permitted in the flrst and second method, respectively; larger amounts are previously removed by extraction with inactive zinc-DDC from sodium hydroxide media.
