The composition, dissolution, and extraction of products of tri-, tetra- , and hexavalent plutonium with cupferron in acid solutions were investigated. It was found that regardless of the plutonium valence state the composition of the resulting product is Pu(C/sub 6/H/sub 5/N/sub 2/O2/sub 24/. The dependence of plutonium(IV) cupferron dissolution on sulfuric acid concentration and cupferron saturation was analyzed and approximate values are given: K/sub s/ = (H/ sup +/)/sup 4//STAP(IV)!STAHR!/sup 4/ = 6.6 x lO/sup 13/ and L/sub s/ = STAPu(IV)!STAR/sup -/!/sup 4/ = 1.2 x 10/sup -31/. Extraction of Pu(IV) with cupferron from sulfuric acid solutions was studied. The constant describing the PuR/sub 4/--HR--H/sub 2/0 --CHCl/sub 3/ system at 20 plus or minus 1 deg C was: K/sub e/ = STAPuR/sub 4/!CHCl/sub 3//STAPu(IV)! H/sub 2/0 x (H/sup +/)/sup 4// STAHR!/sup 4/CHCl/sup 3/ = 1.1 x 10/sup 7/. (R.V.J.)
