EXTRACTION OF Pu FROM SULFURIC ACIDS BY AMINES. I. EXTRACTION OF SULFURIC ACID AND PLUTONIUM(IV) SULFATE BY n-TRIOCTYLAMINE (in Russian)
An analyses are made of the influence of trioctylamine concentration on 2 x 10/sup -4/ M Pu(IV) extraction from sulfuric acid and of the influence of sulfuric acid concentration on the Pu(IV) distribution coefficient. Trioctylamine sulfate with an equilibrium constant K/sub 1/ = 0.279 x 10/sup 7/ and TOA bisulfate with an equilibrium constant K/sub 2/ = 1.18 are formed the organic phase during sulfuric acid extraction. It is shown that Pu(IV) sulfate distribution between sulfuric acid and TOA depends on the ratio of TOA sulfate and bisulfate concentrations. The distribution coefficient of Pu(IV) drops with increased relative TOA bisulfate conconcentration. It is also shown that the distribution coefficient of sulfuric acid and Pu(IV) increases with increased initial n-trioctylamine concentration. (R.V.J.)
