THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON THE TANTALUM-TANTALUM OXIDE ELECTRODE

The Ta/Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/ electrolyte system is studied after irradiation with gamma rays or electrons. The results are compared with those for irradiation with UV and x-rays. Photocurrents are measured that are proportional to radiation intensity at low dose rates. At high dose rates the rate of increase of photocurrent becomes smaller. No significant increase in the thickness of the oxide is measured after irradiation. Tantalum foil electrolytic capacitors are convenient for making rapid routine measurements of photoeffects. (auth)
