ANHARMONIC OSCILLATIONS OF SPHERICAL NUCLEI (in Russian)

A series of phenomenological models using a definite number of parameters have been suggested for studying empirical vibration spectra of spherical nuclei. The simplest model of quadrupole harmonic oscillations predicts an equidistant spectrum consisting of degenerate multiplicities Las in the case in which the second level is a triplet 0/sup +/, 2/sup +/, and 4/sup +/). According to such a model, E2 transition is possible between levels belonging to neighboning multiplicities (the number of phonons changes to one) and B(E2; 22 yields 21)/B(E2; 21 yields 0) = 2. Real nuclei have spectra differing from those predicted by the harmonic model. An attempt was made to describe the differences using anharmonic corrections in phonon interactions (or the contrasting of a pair of bound quasiparticles in a nucleus with an ideal Bose excitation). After separating the main anharmonic corrections the problem permits a phenomenological approach by introducing two parameters (bond constants in three- and four-phonon hamiltonians) for each nucleus aad by using them for calculating level energies, wave functions, and transition probabilities. Phenomenological anharmonic parameters and the ratio of E2 transition probabilities for various nuclei are tabulated. (R.V.J.)
