Quadrupole--octupole anharmonicities in spherical nuclei

Journal Article · · Rev. Roum. Phys., v. 18, no. 7, pp. 901-942

Two models for treating the coupling of quadrupole and octupole vibrations are presented. The quasi-bosonic structure for the quadrupole and octupole operators is preserved. One obtains the nonlinearity of the equations of motion for these two kinds of vibrations by supplementing the conventional Hamiltonian which contains the pairing-, quadrupole --quadrupole and octupole -- octupole interactions with a term of third onder in the moments. One determines the coupling of quadrupole and octupole vibrations, by the anharmonic structure of the quadrupole and octupole operators. The dispersion equations for the single and two phonon collective states (2/sup +/, 3/sup -/, 1/sup -/, 2/sup -/, 3/sup -1/, 4/sup -/, 5/sup -/) a re written in the two considered models and the transition probabilities B (E2,2 yields 0/sup +/), B (E3,3- yields 0/sup +/), B (E3,3/sup -1/ yields 0/sup +/) are found as well. Both alternatives ar e tested for the case of /sup 114/Sn. (auth)
