A STUDY OF SOME (t,p) REACTIONS. II. RESULTS FOR C$sup 12$, C$sup 14$, O$sup 16$ AND O$sup 1$$sup 8$

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
Proton angular distributions from the (t,p) reaction were measured using targets containing /sup 12/C, /sup 14/C, /sup 16/O, and /sup 18/O Good agreement is obtained in most cases with plane-wave double-stripping theory, although transitions to some excited states in /sup 14/C probably proceed by a more complex reaction mechanism. The spin-parity for /sup 16/ C was confirmed to be 01 and the first excited state, observed at 1.753 plus or minus 0.012 Mev excitation, is probably 2/sup +/. Angular distributions were measured for the ground and nine excited states of /sup 18/O and ground and four excited states of /sup 20/O. Only one state, at 4.45-Mev excitation in /sup 18/O, could not be interpreted by a double stripping process. Comparisons with recent shell model calculations suggest that this state may be either 3/sup +/ arising from the d/ sub 5/2/ s/sub 1/2/ configuration or 1/sup -/ from the (1p)/sup -1/(2s,1d)/sup 3/ configuration.
