SOME (t,p) REACTIONS IN LIGHT NUCLEI

Journal Article · · Proc. Phys. Soc. (London)
The (t.p) reactions induced in the target nuclei B/sup 10/, C/sup 12/, O/ sup 16/, and Al/sup 27/ were investigated at an incident triton energy of 5.5 Mev. The angular distributions of the observed proton groups were compared wlth a theory of double stripping and good agreement was obtained wlth the theoretical predictions for transfers of 0, 1, 2, and (more tentatively) 3 units of orbital angular momentum. A level in B/sup 12/ at 4.297 Mev is reported. Spin and parity assignments have been made for the levels of C/sup 14/ at 6.582 Mev (1-), 6.725 Mev (probably 3/sup -/), a hitherto unreported level at 7.009 Mev (0/sup +/ ) and at 7.335 Mev (probably 2/sup -/). Levels in O/sup 18/ at 3.634 and 4.448 Mev were confirmed and the spins and parities were determined to be 0/sup +/ and 3/sup -/, respectively. The spin and parity of the state in O/sup 18/ at 3.915 Mev excitation were determined as 2/sup +/. The behavior of the O/sup 16/ (t,p)O/ sup 18/ reaction leadi ng to the ground and first four excited states of O/sup 18/ was found to be consistent wlth the O/sup 18/ configurations predicted by the intermediate coupling theory. The atomic mass excess of A/sup 29/ was found to be - 9.647 plus or minus 0.015 Mev and the excitations of 42 new levels of Al/ sup 29/ were measured. (auth)
