RESONANCE ABSORPTION OF $gamma$ QUANTA IN MAGNESIUM STANNIDE (Mg$sub 2$Sn). THE 23.8-kev ABSORPTION LINE WITH A NATURAL WIDTH (in Russian)

Resonance absorption of 23.8-kev gamma quanta by /sup 119/Sn nuclei in the Mg/sub 2/Sn compound is investigated at temperatures between 77 and 290 deg K. The probability for gamma -quantum absorption without recoil is 0.77 at 77 deg K and 0.28 at room temperature. The absorption line width in Mg/sub 2/Sn is 0.32 plus or minus 0.02 mm/sec which is in good agreement with the value corresponding to the lifetime of the 23.8-kev excited state. The results are interpreted on the basis of data on the structure and properties of the chemical bond in Mg/sub 2/Sn. (auth)
