ON THE DIFFERENCES OF THE RADIATION INJURY TO TESTES OF RATS. A HISTOLOGICAL AND CYTOLOGICAL STUDY AT 2 AND 8 DAYS AFTER 600-r WHOLE-BODY X-IRRADIATION AND TEN DAYS OF PREIRRADIATION WITH 3 r DAILY (in German)

Three hundred and twenty-four male albino rats (130 to 180 g) received total-body x-ray irradiation with 1 x 600 or 10 x 3 and 1 x 600 r. Great differences in testicular reaction were observed in all experimental groups: 12 out of 29 rats or 9 out of 27 rats showed no histological damage of the testes two days after irradiation with 1 x 800 or 10 x 3 and 1 x 600 r. Five out of 29 rats or bout of 27 rats showed extreme damage to the testes. Eleven out of 29 rats or 5 out of 29 rats showed histologically no damage to the testes 8 days after 1 x 600 or 10 x 3 and 1 x 600 r. Nine out of 29 rats or 11 out of 29 rats showed extreme damage. The histoiogical results were supplemented by cytological studies from touch preparations of the testes. There was no evidence that the sensitivity of rat testes to 600 r is influenced by 10 x 3 r.
