The disturbance of liver functions caused by therapeutic partial-body irradiation or treatment with radioisotopes and cytostatic substances was investigated in 161 tumor patients before, during, and after treatment, using liver function tests. A probable protective effect of essertiai phospholipids was tested. A statistically significant disturbance of liver function occurred only after irradiation in the head-neck-area, from scattered radiation to the liver, during treatment with /sup 131/I and cytostatic substances. A partial protective effect with essential phospholipids was shown. All other cases showed no significant disturbances of the function as far as could be determined with the tests used. (auth)
