DEVELOP PROCESS FOR AND ARC CAST 25 TO 50 POUND INGOTS OF TIN REDUCED MOLYBDENUM. Progress Report for the Period September 30, 1960 thru October 31, 1960

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4020702
Carbon in the as-produced molybdenum powder was investigated. It was concluded that the source of carbon is the raw materials used. It was not determined whether the cold trap is a further source of carbon-containing gases. The purification furnace apparently has the capacity to reduce the carbon- containing vapor to very low levels on a continuous basis when 33 pounds of metal is used at one time. Another ingot was arc cast but contained high residual carbon due to undetected purification furnace failure during reduction runs. (auth)
