Inner shell autoionization resonances of atomic chlorine studied by angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation

In recent years, open shell atoms have attracted increasing interest both theoretically and experimentally. Particularly, atomic chlorine has served as a test case for theoretical calculation of the outer shell photoionization. In this work, the authors have studied the decay spectra of the inner shell Cl 2p {r_arrow} ns, d autonization resonances. From their data the authors derived the relative intensities as well as the angular distribution parameter {beta} for various final ionic states. In addition, from total electron yield measurements of photon energy scan taken over the resonance region, they derived the life time widths of the Cl 2p {r_arrow} ns, d resonances. The experiment was performed on an undulator beamline with a spherical grating monochromator at the Advanced Light Source (ALS) of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
