We have used angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and improved R-matrix calculations to study the Ar 3s{sup 2}3p{sup 6}{r_arrow}3s3p{sup 6}np (n=4{endash}16) and Ne 2s{sup 2}2p{sup 6}{r_arrow}2s2p{sup 6}np (n=3{endash}5) autoionization resonances, and the Ne 2s{sup 2}2p{sup 6}{r_arrow}2p{sup 4}3s3p doubly excited resonance. The photoelectron angular distribution parameters {beta} have been parameterized according to the prescription of Kabachnik and Sazhina (1) and have been compared with our R-matrix calculations and those of Taylor (2). We have also analyzed the cross section shape for the resonances, which agree well with previous experiments done for the lower resonances. {copyright} {ital 1997 American Institute of Physics.}
