In this paper, with a computer-simulating technique, the authors describe the relations between the ratio of current hardening depth to a set-point hardening depth and the involved parameters at (A) the beginning of the diffusion period and (B) the beginning of the temperature descending period in the carburizing and carbonitriding process under adaptive control. The parameters include set-point surface carbon content and core carbon content of the part, carbon content upper limit of the part in the process, set-point hardening depth, carburizing/carbonitriding temperature, discharging temperature, temperature-descending velocity and holding time, etc. A general mathematical model is established and several tables are given to reflect the relations mentioned above. In addition, the application effects of HT-93 series control system (fool-proof type) adopting the mathematical model in production are reported.
