{pi}{degrees} production in interactions of 0.5 TeV/c {pi}{sup -} on nuclear targets

The authors report on the inclusive production of {pi}{sup 0}s with P{sub T}>0.5 GeV/c in interactions of a 0.5 TeV/c {pi}{sup {minus}} beam incident on beryllium and copper targets. These low P{sub T} data were selected using prescaled beam and prescaled interaction triggers. Photons were detected in a finely segmented lead and liquid argon electromagnetic calorimeter. The interaction vertex locations were reconstructed using information from silicon microstrip detectors, multiwire proportional chambers and drift chambers. The observed nuclear dependence of the {pi}{sup 0} production cross section will also be presented and compared to other data.
