Production of high P{Tau} {pi}{degrees}`s and {eta}`s in {pi}{sup -} collisions on nuclear targets

During its 1990 and 1991 runs, Fermilab experiment E706 recorded approximately 25 million high P{sub T} events with 0.5 TeV/c {pi}{sup {minus}} beam incident on Hydrogen, Beryllium, Silicon, and Copper. These events were triggered by high transverse momentum depositions in a Pb-LAr electromagnetic calorimeter, which was finely segmented to allow separation of partially overlapping showers. Charged tracks were reconstructed using information from silicon microstrip detectors, multiwire proportional chambers, and drift chambers. Using these data, the authors have measured {pi}{sup 0} and {eta} cross sections which will be compared with NLL QCD calculations. In addition, they report on the nuclear dependence of these production cross sections.
