  1. California Steel Industries, Inc., Fontana, CA (United States)
US EPA`s ``Common Sense Initiative`` (CSI) is the new policy initiative intended to fundamentally change the way in which industry is regulated. The CSI has brought industry, government and environmentalists together in an effort to improve environmental protection by encouraging pollution prevention and environmentally appropriate technologies, while reducing red-tape and inappropriate regulatory burdens, attempting to cure the existing state of too little environmental protection at too great an expense. According to the EPA, the CSI has initially focused on six industries that make up 15% of the Gross Domestic Product, account for 345 million pounds of toxic releases, and employ four million people. Representing a cross section of American industry, these industries include: (1) iron and steel, (2) printing, (3) petroleum refineries, (4) metal plating and finishing, (5) automobile manufacturing, and (6) computers and electronics manufacturing.
