A few collective effects of a microbunch storage ring are estimated using a design of a model ring. The model ring has 1 GeV beam energy, 500 {mu}m bunch length, and 3{times}10{sup 9} particles/bunch. The bunch length and the intensity are strongly limited by two effects, the energy loss due to the coherent radiation and the resistive-wall impedance of the vacuum chamber. The model ring also meets the requirements from Touschek lifetime and the single-bunch instability caused by the accelerating gaps. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
