Large, independent-power, combined-cycle plant is a study in logistics
Among the more important and multifaceted advantages independent power projects offer is the speed with which they can be placed into operation. When these plants reach a size of 500 MW or more, logistics play an important role in reaching a commissioning schedule of only a few months after the project`s inception. A case in point is Cogen Technologies` Linden combined-cycle cogeneration plant in Linden, New Jersey, U.S.A. The construction of the Linden plant is a study in logistics. As the turnkey constructor, Ebasco kept construction on a tight schedule, starting the project on February 1, 1991, and completing it in 15 months. Congestion in the area, both within the refinery and the surrounding region, made construction particularly challenging. This paper discusses in brief the specifications of the critical equipment and design parameters of the the plant, and the implementation of the project. 2 figs.
