Recent predictive maintenance experience at independent power and cogeneration plants
Predictive Maintenance is the continuous or periodic monitoring and diagnosis of equipment and components in order to forecast equipment failure. Condition monitoring data are used to trend and forecast equipment performance so that planned maintenance can be performed prior to equipment failure. PdMA Corporation (the name means Predicitve Maintenance Applications) has implemented predictive maintenance (PdM) programs for three independent power and cogeneration plants in the U.S. The plants are the Tenaska III cogeneration plant in Paris, Texas; the Doswell Combined Cycle Facility at Ashland, Virginia and Linden Cogeneration Plant, Linden, New Jersey. Although the plants are widely separated geographically and are used for different purposes, they have many features in common. All are combined cycle plants (combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generators). The Tenaska III plant has been in operation for over two years, but the remaining two plants have entered service only recently.
