The effect of precipitation conditions on the size and shape of Pu{sub 2}(C{sub 2}O{sub 4}){sub 3}{center_dot}10H{sub 2}O crystals (starting [Pu] and [HNO{sub 3}], temperature and duration of precipitation, mixing order of reagents, [HNO{sub 3}] and [H{sub 2}C{sub 2}O{sub 4}] in the mother liquor) is investigated. Adding H{sub 2}C{sub 2}O{sub 4} to HNO{sub 3} solutions of Pu(III) forms large-grained crystalline precipitates of Pu(III) oxalate that consist of separate crystals. Finely crystalline monodisperse precipitates of Pu(III) oxalate are formed if a Pu(III) solution is added to a solution of H{sub 2}C{sub 2}O{sub 4}.
