The platinum(II) hydroxo complexes, [L{sub 2}Pt({mu}-OH)]{sub 2}(BF{sub 4}){sub 2} (1), have been prepared from the reaction of L{sub 2}PtCl{sub 2} with AgBF{sub 4} for L{sub 2} = dppm, dppp, dppb, 2Me{sub 2}Ph, and Bu{prime}{sub 2}bpy (dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane, dppe = bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane, dppp = bis(diphenylphosphino)propane, dppb = bis(diphenylphosphino)butane, Bu{prime}{sub 2}bpy = 4,4{prime}-di-tert-butyl-2,2{prime}-bipyridine). The trifluroacetate (L{sub 2} = dppp) and the nitrate (L{sub 2} = Bu{prime}{sub 2}bpy) salts were also prepared. Two of these new hydroxo complexes, as well as the previously known PPh{sub 3} complex, were structurally characterized.
