Low P{sub t} pion production in relativistic {sup 28}Si + Al, Pb collisions

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:243955
Enhanced pion production at low transverse momentum has been proposed as a signature for chiral symmetry restoration in dense hadronic matter and/or as a novel measure of system temperature through resonance excitations. Using the wide acceptance version of the E814 magnetic spectrometer the authors have measured identified pion yields down to P{sub t} = 0 over the rapidity range 2.0 {le} y {le} 5.0 in {sup 28}Si + Pb collisions at 14.6A GeV/c. Results for {pi}{sup +} and {pi}{sup {minus}} will be presented and compared with models that include resonance production.
