Mixed-ligand complexes of rare-earth elements with dipivaloylmethane and acetic acid

Solids products forming in the MDpm{sub 3}-HAcet-n-hexane (M=Pr, Nd, Eu, Gd, Ho, Er, and Yb; HDpm is dipivaloylmethane; and HAcet is acetic acid) are characterized by the data or elemental, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analyses and IR spectroscopy. The resulting mixed-ligand complexes were found to have composition MDpm{sub 2}-Acet for all REEs studied. The difference in properties of the compounds of cerium and yttrium subgroups manifests itself in the thermal dissociation of the mixed-ligand complexes, which occurs under reduced pressure at 170{degrees}C.
