Filling and solidification sequences in gravity tilt-pour casting

Three-dimensional analyses were carried out on the filling and solidification sequences in gravity tilt-pour casting. The EASY-FAST has been employed to solve the fluid flow and heat transfer problems in the gravity tilt-pour casting process. The effects of tilt-pour conditions, such as tilting speed and angle on flow pattern, filling and solidification sequences have been investigated. Filling and solidification sequences in the gravity tilt casting of pure tin and aluminum alloy castings have been investigated experimentally and compared with simulations by the present model. The simulated results showed a good agreement with the experimental results. The optimum operation variables in the gravity tilt-pour casting can be obtained using the present model.
