Metal levels in liver and kidney of catfish

Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) is a popular consumer fish in the southern part of the USA. They are found in ponds and lakes where they can be used to monitor the aquatic environment. During the summer of 1994 catfish were caught and their livers and kidneys were dissected out for copper and zinc analysis. The mean concentrations of Cu and Zn were 41.22, and 16.97 ppm in livers and 20.00 and 10.67 ppm in kidneys, respectively. The concentrations of Zn did not show any significant difference between the livers and kidneys of catfish. However, the Cu concentrations showed a significant difference between the livers and kidneys of catfish.
