Environmental liability for federal lands and facilities

This article reviews the legal and factual basis for the federal government`s environmental liability for its lands and facilities. The first focus is the government`s liability for the public lands administered by the US DOE since 1849 upon which government authorized mining, oil and gas development and other industrial activities have been authorized. The second focus is the liabilities associated with other federal facilities and installations, particularly those administered by US DOD and US DOE and their predecessor agencies.
