The status and prospects of the development of nuclear industry`s codes and standards in Korea

Since the late 1980s, self-reliance program for nuclear technology development has been pursued by the Korean nuclear community, and local entities have been charged with the design, manufacturing, and construction of nuclear power plants. Accordingly, the development of suitable codes and standards for the nuclear industry is needed. A conceptual picture of the nuclear industry`s codes and standards is reviewed in relation to the current prevailing legal structure. A phase-by-phase development program for codes and standards is described in detail.
