  1. CNOOC, Zhanjiang (China). Drilling Dept.

CONHW (China Offshore Oil Nanhai West Corp.), a regional company of CNOOC, has successfully drilled and completed two horizontal wells (W11-4-A13 and W10-3-N6) through its own efforts in Beibu Gulf, south China Sea during 1992 and 1993. It is unprecedented in its drilling history. The features of the two wells in technical aspects are shallow kicking-off point, medial radius wellbore profile, setting 9-5/8 in. casing after hitting the ``landing point`` -- horizontal target, combination use of single tilted steerable mud motor and conventional rotary drilling, with top drive (A13), rotary table (N6), MWD and polyplus type mud system.
