Earlier studies of the phase equilibria in Yb-M-Ge systems at 670 K showed the existence of YbM{sub 6}Ge{sub 6} ternary germanides. Mruz et al, and Bucholz and Schuster reported that YbM{sub 6}Ge{sub 6} phases with M = Fe and Co have a structure of the YCo{sub 6}Ge{sub 6} type; later, Venturini et al. described the structures of the Fe and Mn compounds as belonging to the HfFe{sub 6}Ge{sub 6} type. In this work the authors redetermined the structure of the YbM{sub 6}Ge{sub 6} (M = Fe, Co, Mn) germanides.
