This paper addresses the use of multiple active power line conditioners (APLCs) for holding harmonic voltages and voltage distortion in a power system within IEEE-519 guidelines while minimizing APLC injection current or several other alternative network functions. The authors propose a sequential one-APLC placement procedure for computing initial current injections and locations of APLCs, followed by the nonlinear optimizing program GRG2 to further improve the solution. The authors illustrate the usefulness of the procedure with a distribution system example.
