Practically all the author`s data on the fuel-containing lavas (FCL), new technogenic formations, that were generated during the accident at the Chernobyl NPP fourth block are reviewed. The positions of the FCL are examined. The FCL are classified and their physicochemical properties are reported. The amount of fuel in the subreactor rooms is estimated. A formation scenario of the FCL is discussed in detail with a calculation of the heat release and duration of each stage.
