Partial photonuclear channels and the giant dipole resonance in the {sup 45}Sc nucleus

New data on 32 partial channels of the reactions ({gamma},n{sub i}) and ({gamma},p{sub i}) for the {sup 45}Sc nucleus (the subscript i numbers the levels of product nuclei) from a ({gamma},x{gamma}{prime}) experiment make it possible to obtain deeper insight into the mechanism responsible for the formation and decay of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) of 1f2p-shell nuclei. The results of the data analysis are as follows. The E1 transitions of nucleons of the outer (1f2p) shell make a 10% contribution to the photoproton cross section and a 10-20% contribution to the photoneutron cross section. For this GDR branch (1f2p{yields}1g2d3s), a semidirect decay is dominant. However, the GDR of the {sup 45}Sc nucleus is due largely to transitions of nucleons from the inner 1d2s shell. As this GDR branch (1d2s{yields}1f2p) decays mainly through the statistical mechanism, this mechanism prevails for the {sup 45}Sc-nucleus GDR as a whole. The statistical decay mechanism is responsible for 70-90% of the integrated photoabsorption cross section. 21 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs.
