Review of building 332 accident analysis to determine if the ventilation system is a required safety-class item
The accident scenarios documented in Chapter 3 of the Plutonium Facility--Building 332 Safety Analysis Report (Ref. 1) have been reevaluated for the purpose of improving our understanding of the significance of the role played by the Building 332 ventilation system. The analysis results of this reevaluation showed that the dose values at the site boundary for the evaluation-basis fire and the solvent explosion accident scenarios would exceed the evaluation guidelines if the ventilation system were unavailable during the accidents. Therefore, to maintain offsite exposures below evaluation guidelines, the building ventilation system and its supporting emergency power system should be considered safety class based on the definition of that term given in DOE-STD-3009.
