Closed cycle cryocooler with hybrid heat exchanger-regenerator: Phase 1 final report
The feasibility of combining two Gifford-McMahon (G-M) cycle cryocoolers to operate 180{degree} out of phase with the last (coldest) stages thermally connected through a common heat exchange element has been investigated. Concepts to mechanically combine two machines operating 180{degree} out of phase in absolute timing have been developed. A computer model of the final stages and the common hybrid heat exchanger-regenerator has been written. Calculations to date have shown the system will provide useful refrigeration in the 5K region.
