Solvent refined coal (SRC) process: health programs. Research and development report No. 53: interim report No. 28, July 1, 1977--June 30, 1978. Volume III. Pilot plant development work. Part 4. Industrial hygiene, clinical, and toxicological programs
The major areas of activity within the Health Programs are: an industrial hygiene monitoring program, a clinical medical examination program, an educational and personal hygiene program, and a toxicological program. Continuing industrial hygiene monitoring indicated that worker exposures during SRC II operation were generally very similar to the quite low exposures measured during the previous SRC I operation. Significantly lower levels of total suspended particulates and benezene soluble particulates were observed during SRC II operation compared to SRC I operation. The medical examination program continued to indicate the absence of discernible occupationally related changes in employee medical profiles. The employee personal hygiene and education program has continued to be generally successful. Additional visual aids have been incorporated in the educational program. The toxicology program progressed very slowly because of extraordinary difficulties at the contract toxicology laboratory. The initial toxicology subcontract was terminated in June and a revised proposal submitted to DOE to complete the SRC I toxicology and to initiate on SRC II toxicology program.
