Title: Formation of excited hydrogen atoms by charge transfer and dissociation. Progress report No. 11, December 1, 1974--November 1, 1975

Technical Report ·

A study of the excited states of atoms backscattered from metal surfaces is presented. Incident ions were H$sup +$, H$sub 2$$sup +$, and He$sup +$ at energies of 10 to 30 keV. Preliminary data are presented for a study of the charge state distribution among atoms backscattered from surfaces. Results of a study of light emission from atoms sputtered off targets by 10 to 30 keV Ar$sup +$ ions as a way to determine surface contamination are presented. Brief studies of radiation damage by 10 to 30 keV H$sup +$ and He$sup +$ ions are discussed. 5 figures. (GHT)
