Environmental ISR (Quarterly Progress Report Q3 FY19 April-June 2019)
- Lawrence Livermore National Lab. (LLNL), Livermore, CA (United States)
Progress have been good on both projects. On the subsurface radionuclide project, graduate student, Emily Tran, submitted our first joint manuscript resulting from this collaboration to Water Resources. The manuscript covers batch and flow through experiments using radionuclides with and without bentonite colloids through a naturally fractured chalk rock. Solutions used were collected from a field site in Israel with high ionic strength and filtered prior to using in the experiment. Results show that the bentonite colloids are unstable under these high ionic strengths in carbonate rock in Israel. The U is not significantly eluted with or without bentonite colloids and cerium precipitates as a mobile colloid in the absence of colloids.
