A History of Research Reactors Division Revision 1 September 2018

In October of 1990 the Director of ORNL, Dr. Alvin Trivelpiece, directed that each division prepare a division history for the upcoming 50th anniversary of ORNL. A history of RRD was subsequently compiled and issued in October 1992 as “A Brief History of the Research Reactors Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory”, ORNL/M-2342. The Research Reactors Division was only about 5 1/2 years old at the time and many challenges were still to come as the division matured into the organization we now know. Almost twenty-six years have passed since the first history was prepared and ORNL is celebrating its 75th anniversary, so this seems to be an appropriate time to update and again celebrate our history.
