Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/1470987· OSTI ID:1470987

The Pluto Program has as its objectives the research and development necessary to demonstrate scientific feasibility of a nuclear powered ramjet system, and eventually its engineering design, construction, and testing. That part of the Program being carried out by Atomics International is a study of the basic science and technology of refractory materials which are of potential interest in a ramjet reactor. Basic information on material properties and processes necessary for subsequent engineering design will be obtained, and understood on the basis of current materials science and technology.
