Linear Actuators for Helium Expansion Engines Final Report CRADA No. TSB-728-93
- Lawrence Livermore National Lab. (LLNL), Livermore, CA (United States)
- PHPK Technologies, Inc., Westerville, OH (United States)
The project is a relationship between the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and PHPK Technologies, Inc.. PPK is engaged in developing a family of reciprocating linear expansion engine designs for cryogenic refrigerator/liquifier applications to provide liquid helium temperatures for superconducting magnet devices for use in commercial, industrial, and other applications. The purpose of this CRADA project is for LLNL to survey and evaluate technology within LLNL and other National Laboratories for the development of a linear actuator motor for use in PHPK' s helium expansion engines. LLNL and PHPK will together evaluate the feasibility of such a motor to meet PHPK's characteristics, and prepare a conceptual design, with cost, which supports their preliminary analysis.
