The utilization of thin polyimide windows and filter substrates was an important area of research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in the Inertial Confinement Fusion Program/Target Science and Technology Group. The ability to utilize thin CH films for gas tight target windows and x-ray and EUV diagnostic filter substrates was a primary requirement for the ICF program. The existing supplier for this material had a limited ability for materials characterization and quantitative analysis of the polyimide and metalized materials. Improvements in this area would enhance our ability to support research for the National Ignition Facility and SBSS for Defense Programs and the Factory of the Future/ Advanced Design and Production Technology (AdaPT) program. The main goal of the material analysis was to permit Luxel Corporation to improve product quality and reliability for our needs as well as their other commercial customers. The purpose of this project was to provide material science and quantitative analysis support to a small business to permit them to modify processes and procedures to better meet LLNL and DOE/DP's thin CH window and filter needs.
