Applying macros to NDT engineering
- Allied Signal Fluid Systems, Tempe, AZ (United States)
Applications of macros to the nondestructive testing (NDT) field are extensive and include writing work instructions, process control logs, and blueprint review tasks. If the macros are written and controlled by certified Level III individuals, then the NDT Engineering Department responsibilities for tasks delegated to the macros can be reduced to verification of the final result of the task and maintenance and updating of the software. The most successful example of the application of macros to NDT engineering tasks is the NDTNOTES macro written on WordPerfect, which is being used to define blueprint notes for NDT applications. One of the tasks of NDT Level IIIs is to specify the proper NDT inspection requirements on each component. One of the Level III's duties in this area is to review blueprints to verify that the proper NDT notes are defined on the drawing. These notes include liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography, and ultrasonic processing requirements and acceptance criteria.
