Static charge-density-wave order in the superconducting state of La2-xBaxCuO4

Title: Static charge-density-wave order in the superconducting state of ${La}_{2 - x} {Ba}_{x} {CuO}_{4}$

Abstract

Charge-density-wave (CDW) correlations feature prominently in the phase diagram of the cuprates, motivating competing theories of whether fluctuating CDW correlations aid superconductivity or whether static CDW order coexists with superconductivity in inhomogeneous or spatially modulated states. We report Cu L -edge resonant x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy measurements of CDW correlations in superconducting La _{2 - x} Ba _x CuO ₄ , x = 0.11 . The static CDW order is shown to exist in the superconducting state at low temperatures and to persist up to at least 85% of the CDW transition temperature. Here, we discuss the implications of our observations for how nominally competing order parameters can coexist in the cuprates.

The correlations between stripe order, superconductivity, and crystal structure in La 2 - x Ba x CuO 4 single crystals have been studied by means of x-ray and neutron diffraction as well as static magnetization measurements. Light-Induced Melting of Competing Stripe Orders without Introducing Superconductivity in ${La}_{2 - x} {Ba}_{x} {CuO}_{4}$

The ultrafast manipulation of quantum material has led to many novel and significant discoveries. Among them, the light-induced transient superconductivity in cuprates achieved by melting competing stripe orders represents a highly appealing accomplishment. However, recent investigations have shown that the notion of photoinduced superconductivity remains a topic of controversy, and its elucidation solely through c -axis time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy remains an arduous task. Here, we measure the in-plane and out-of-plane transient terahertz responses simultaneously in the stripe-ordered nonsuperconducting La_2-xBa_xCuO₄ after near-infrared excitations. Magnetic-Field Tuning of Light-Induced Superconductivity in Striped ${La}_{2 - x} {Ba}_{x} {CuO}_{4}$ [Magnetic-Field Tuning of Photo-Induced Superconductivity in Striped ${La}_{2 - x} {Ba}_{x} {CuO}_{4}$ ]

Optical excitation of stripe-ordered La_2–xBa_xCuO₄ has been shown to transiently enhance superconducting tunneling between the CuO₂ planes. This effect was revealed by a blueshift, or by the appearance of a Josephson plasma resonance in the terahertz-frequency optical properties. Here, we show that this photoinduced state can be strengthened by the application of high external magnetic fields oriented along the c axis. For a 7 T field, we observe up to a tenfold enhancement in the transient interlayer phase correlation length, accompanied by a twofold increase in the relaxation time of the photoinduced state. Dynamic parallel spin stripes from the 1/8 anomaly to the end of superconductivity in ${La}_{1.6 - x} {Nd}_{0.4} {Sr}_{x} {CuO}_{4}$

We have carried out neutron spectroscopic measurements on single crystals of La_1.6-xNd_0.4Sr_xCuO₄ from 0.12 ≤ x ≤ 0.26 using time-of-flight techniques. These measurements allow us to follow the evolution of parallel spin stripe fluctuations with energies less than ~33 meV, from x = 0.12 to 0.26. Samples at these hole-doping levels are known to display static (on the neutron-scattering time scale) parallel spin stripes at low temperature, with onset temperatures and intensities which decrease rapidly with increasing x. Evolution of superconducting correlations within magnetic-field-decoupled La $_{2 - x}$ Ba $_{x}$ CuO $_{4}$ ( $x = 0.095$ )

We explore the evolution of superconductivity in La 2 - x Ba x CuO 4 with x = 0.095 in magnetic fields of up to 35 T applied perpendicular to the CuO 2 planes. Previous work on this material has shown that perpendicular fields enhance both charge- and spin-stripe order within the planes. We present measurements of the resistivity parallel and perpendicular to the planes, as well as the Hall effect. Measurements of magnetic susceptibility for fields of up to 15 T applied both parallel and perpendicular to the planes provide complementary measures of the superconductivity.
