Single crystals of RMg₂Cu₉ (R=Y, Ce-Nd, Gd-Dy, Yb) were grown using a high-temperature solution growth technique and were characterized by measurements of room-temperature x-ray diffraction, temperature-dependent specific heat, and temperature- and field-dependent resistivity and anisotropic magnetization. YMg₂Cu₉ is a non-local-moment-bearing metal with an electronic specific heat coefficient, γ ~ 15 mJ/mol K². Yb is divalent and basically non-moment-bearing in YbMg2Cu9. Ce is trivalent in CeMg₂Cu₉ with two magnetic transitions being observed at 2.1 K and 1.5 K. PrMg₂Cu₉ does not exhibit any magnetic phase transition down to 0.5 K. Chemical strain-dependent two-dimensional transport at $R {AlO}_{3} / {SrTiO}_{3}$ interfaces $(R = La, Nd, Sm, and Gd)$

Perovskite RAlO₃ (R = La, Nd, Sm, and Gd) films have been deposited epitaxially on (001) TiO₂-terminated SrTiO₃ substrates. In this paper, it is observed that the two-dimensional transport characteristics at the RAlO₃/SrTiO₃ interfaces are very sensitive to the species of rare-earth element, that is to chemical strain. Although electron energy loss spectroscopy measurements show that electron transfer occurs in all the four polar/nonpolar heterostructures, the amount of electrons transferred across SmAlO₃/SrTiO₃ and GdAlO₃/SrTiO₃ interfaces are much less than those across LaAlO₃/SrTiO₃ and NdAlO₃/SrTiO₃ interfaces. Complex magnetic properties in the mixed $4 f - 5 d$ double perovskite iridates $X_{2} {ZnIrO}_{6} (X = Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd)$

Here in this paper, we report on the synthesis and magnetic properties of a series of double perovskites Ln₂ZnIrO₆ with Ln = Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd. These compounds present examples of the rare case of double perovskites (general formula A₂BB'O6) with a magnetic 4ƒ-ion on the A site in combination with the strongly spin-orbit coupled 5d transition-metal ion Ir⁴⁺ on the B sublattice. We discuss the impact of different rare earths on the macroscopic magnetic properties.
