Here, we discuss the p- and hp-versions of the virtual element method for the approximation of eigenpairs of elliptic operators with a potential term on polygonal meshes. An application of this model is provided by the Schrödinger equation with a pseudopotential term. As an interesting byproduct, we present for the first time in literature an explicit construction of the stabilization of the mass matrix. We present in detail the analysis of the p-version of the method, proving exponential convergence in the case of analytic eigenfunctions. Due to its high performance and throughput capabilities, GPU-accelerated computing is becoming a popular technology in scientific computing, in particular using programming models such as CUDA and OpenACC. The main advantage with OpenACC is that it enables to simply port codes in their ‘‘original’’ form to GPU systems through compiler directives, thus allowing an incremental approach. An OpenACC implementation is applied to the CFD code Nek5000 for simulation of incompressible flows, based on the spectral-element method.
