Here, we present a simple model for the turbulent kinetic energy behavior of subsonic plasma turbulence undergoing isotropic three-dimensional compression, which may exist in various inertial confinement fusion experiments or astrophysical settings. The plasma viscosity depends on both the temperature and the ionization state, for which many possible scalings with compression are possible. For example, in an adiabatic compression the temperature scales as 1/L², with L the linear compression ratio, but if thermal energy loss mechanisms are accounted for, the temperature scaling may be weaker. This work is devoted to the study of the sheath expansion above a charged species collector immersed into the plasma in the general case of the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) (not necessarily a Boltzmann distributed function). In the first part, considering the general form of the electron kinetic energy distribution function (EEDF) in the plasma and assuming a one dimensional system, we propose an equation describing the limit value of the ion velocity at the sheath edge. On the loop voltage response to an rf current drive in a tokamak

Inductive electric field evolution in response to an rf current drive is analyzed for conditions typical for tokamak operation, with emphasis on a localized current drive. Relaxation time scales for a broad class of conductivity profiles are calculated, using the WKB approximation, and compared with numerical solutions. Loop voltage response in recent experiments in the Phaedrus-T tokamak is exploited to infer the current drive. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}

RF high voltage performance of RF transmission line components on the DIII-D Fast Wave Current Drive (FWCD) system

The performance of the high voltage rf components of the DIII-D Fast Wave Current Drive System (FWCD) have been evaluated under various conditions of insulator configuration, insulator material, insulating gas and gas pressure. The insulator materials that have been investigated are alumina, steatite, pyrex, quartz, and teflon. The results of this evaluation are discussed in this paper.
